Applied Science
Intent
This specialised course is offered to provide an alternative to the more traditional A-Level route. Taught over two years, it results in the student gaining a National Extended Certificate in Applied Science, this is equivalent to one A-level.
Applied Science is the practical study of all disciplines of science. Students study a range of scientific techniques that are used within industry for example: titration, chromatography, calorimetry, colorimetry and food tests.
Throughout the course the practical element is just as important as the theoretical element. Students develop objective logical thinking and problem solving skills as well as a wide range of practical skills.
In this sense, Applied Science combines well with a wide variety of other subjects and can lead to careers as diverse as law, commerce and the arts.
