Oxted School Trust

The Oxted School Trust was established as a registered charity in 1989.

Its aims are to provide for the enhancement of the education of students at Oxted School by donating or contributing towards the provision of educational, recreational and other facilities not normally provided from regular funding sources.

Since its inception, the Trust has either financed or contributed towards a number of enrichment activities: for example the purchase of musical instruments and photographic equipment; towards various recreational facilities like the refurbishment of the Sports Hall, the upgrade of the All Weather Pitch and the purchase of a new minibus; and towards improving certain other facilities like providing new furniture for the Reception area, a lighting upgrade for the Main Hall and canopies to provide under cover shelter for students.

In 2012, the School Fund was merged into the School Trust

In 2012, the School Fund was merged into the School Trust so that both sources of funding could benefit from the Trust’s charitable tax status. As a result, the Trust now finances regular annual and other events such as the prizes handed out at the annual Junior and Senior Prize Giving events and the Christmas party held annually for local senior citizens.

During the past couple of years, and as a result of cuts in central funding, the Trust has focused its activities on supporting the School’s enrichment programme of enrichment activities, for example the cost of transporting students to sporting and other external events. Without the continued support of the Trust, there is a very real danger that such activities could be curtailed to the detriment of our students.

The Trust meet once a term to review contributions to the Trust and to consider additional funding requests.

The Trust is administered by a group of Trustees consisting of a mixture of current and former parents, School Governors and members of staff. They meet once a term to review contributions to the Trust and to consider additional funding requests.

We encourage parents to make Gift Aid donations to the Trust either on a one-off or annual basis. In either case, under current tax regulations, the Trust can claim tax relief on all such donations if contributors sign a declaration confirming that they are UK tax payers. We would also remind parents that many employers are now willing to match fund any donations made by members of their staff.

With so many parents working full-time and unable to spare time to assist with fundraising activities, the Trust provides an easy alternative for them to make a valuable financial contribution towards improving the school for the benefit of their children.

Payments can be made either by completing the standing order instructions, by sending a cheque made payable to 'Oxted School Trust' to the School or by using the School’s online payments system.

Anyone requiring additional information about the Trust or indeed who wishes to serve as a Trustee should contact Yvonne Everall at the School on yvonne.everall@oxted.thpt.org.uk
