Jaguar and Land Rover In Schools Challenge

Congratulations to Year 9 students Nick S, Max H, Harry J, Logan A, Joe WE who achieved success for Oxted School at the Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) 4x4 in schools challenge at Harlow College on Tuesday. Their team, the ‘Oxted Orbits’ had a rigorous day of presentations and judging and assessments.

They had to complete a verbal presentation of their design to judges, then they were questioned and judged on their engineering by a team of engineers from JLR.   Their vehicle was then scrutinised by a team of retired engineers from JLR in which they received top marks for.

Their vehicle then had to take on the track assessment where it was to the test, overcoming many different obstacles, including bridges, ramps, rocks and water, all testing their 4x4 capabilities and design.   Each member of the team had to complete at least one element of the course, and they all held their nerve brilliantly.   Unfortunately, at the final element, where the vehicle had to drive in to a water trough, disaster hit and the vehicle fell off the course, resulting in a deduction in points.

At the end of the day, where the ‘Oxted Orbits’ were in the same division (Entry level) as 12 other schools from across London and the South East. They won the best engineered car and also received first place as Regional champions of the entry class.

As Regional champions, the ‘Oxted Orbits’ are now invited to the National championships, as guests, to see the development and pro level classes battle it out for the national championships of their respective classes. The ‘Oxted Orbits’ will be competing at development level next year.

Well done boys!
