Senior Prize Giving
On Tuesday 25 September we celebrated the success of our senior students at our Senior Prize Giving Ceremony. The atmosphere for celebration was set by Year 10 student Joanna Readwin playing the harp, who played beautifully as invited guests arrived in the Main Hall.
Over 100 senior students from Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 were awarded prizes for academic achievement, effort, endeavour and excellence and received their prizes from their Pastoral Leader. Our guest speaker was Mr Neil Kent, Oxted Alumni and Managing Director at Chapter Communications.
Following a warm welcome by Mr Belok, Chair of Local Governance Board, Mrs Euridge spoke enthusiastically about the rich and diverse range of activities that students at Oxted School participate in and the numerous successes they have achieved in the past academic year.
The audience listened to ‘A Snow Storm’ composed and performed by Louis Hobson on piano, a reading ‘A Classics Trip’ read by Ellie d’Alessandro, Ella Dawson, Kirsty Eagles and Isobel Van Wyk an ‘The Infinite Shining Heavens’ by R Vaughan Williams sung by Emily Budgen, accompanied by Mr Baker.
Following an introduction by Head Boy, Ben Gibbs and Head Girl Emily Budgen, former Oxted County student, Mr Kent, presented students with their prizes. Mr Kent then addressed the students with a combination of reminiscences about his time in Oxted and also his hopes and words of advice for the students. A final vote of thank was offered by Deputy Head Girl, Charlotte Strange and Deputy Head boy, Charlie Watkins.
The finale of ‘One Step Beyond’ (Madness) was played by Charlie Watkins on saxophone. Refreshments were served in the Meridian Dining Hall as the Jazz Quartet played (Jake Hasler, Hake Hobson, Charlie Watkins and Mr Holloway).
