VI Students Enter Park Run

Over the course of 12 weeks, some of our Year 10 and Year 11 students have learnt what it is like to do sports, such as goalball, football, cricket and Boccia, with a visual impairment. They have been involved in VI awareness, led by our Year 10 and Year 11 visually impaired students.  As part of this awareness and for their DofE Volunteering, the students took part in the East Grinstead Park Run on Saturday.

The students ran the course half under blindfold whilst a partner sighted and guided them; at a halfway point, the students swapped over.

The students are being sponsored for this run for the charity Sightbox, who will use the money raised to send sports equipment to visually impaired students in Third World Countries.  We were delighted for the Oxted Rotary President, Neil Hills to present a cheque for £700 which will be added to the amount the students raise for sight boxes.

Special thanks to the Oxted Rotary President, Neil Hills, Mr Bond, Principal, and our parents who supported the students.  Thanks also go to Mrs Leech (former Head of VI) and Anna from Sight for Surrey who, along with other VI staff, guided our three visually impaired students around the course.
