Year 6 Transition

We are delighted that your child will be joining Oxted School as a Year 7 student in September 2024 and hope this will be the start of a very strong and positive working relationship between us and yourselves.

The transition to secondary school is an exciting start to a new phase of education – however we recognise that it can be a stressful time for families. The staff at Oxted School work hard to ensure that both students and parents/carers feel supported through this process.

There are several forms for completion online by Friday 24 May 2024.  Please note that if your child’s admission forms are not completed by Friday 24 May, your child’s start at Oxted School may be delayed.

Reminder of Key Dates:

We warmly invite parents of new students to the Parents’ Information Evening, which will be held in the Main Hall on Tuesday 2 July 2024 at 6.00pm, and we anticipate this will last no longer than two hours.  This will be an opportunity to meet members of the school staff and receive further information about your child’s induction to the school.

Year 6 students are invited to a Transition Day on Tuesday 2 July 2024.  This will be an opportunity for them to meet staff and other new students, begin to get to know the layout of the school and to participate in taster lessons.

Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs K Mullen, Admissions Manager admissions@oxted.thpt.org.uk  who will be able to answer your question or direct you to the right person.

Transition Day – Tuesday 2 July 2024

Please note that this plan is draft only – confirmed details will be sent out nearer the time.

Students:    9.00am - 3.00pm

Students will be divided into their new tutor groups and spend the day getting to know the other members of their tutor and year group. They will also meet with Mrs Payne (Executive Principal), Ms Nicholls (Vice Principal) and the Year 7 Team. During the day there will be a number of ‘getting to know you’ activities and a chance to make new friends and meet new staff.

The programme for the day will be varied, including the following:

  • Team building activities
  • An opportunity to experience lessons in various subject areas
  • A chance to explore the school, to start learning where things are
  • The option to purchase snacks and/or drinks from our Astro Café (please note, all students should bring a packed lunch)

Students should wear their current school uniform and bring a packed lunch. Year 6 students will have a dedicated area at lunch and break on Transition Day.

Parents/Carers:   6.00pm - 8.00pm

Later in the day parents/carers will also have the opportunity to meet with the key staff who are responsible for the wellbeing and academic progress of the students, including Mrs Payne (Executive Principal), Ms Nicholls (Vice Principal) and the Year 7 Team.

Part of the evening will take the form of a presentation in the Main Hall, but there will also be time to ask questions and get to know the House and Year Teams.

At any point over the coming months and years, please contact us if you have concerns; no question is too small when it comes to the safety, happiness, and success of your child. We want your child to look forward to secondary school and we will do everything we can to make sure they enjoy and achieve during this important time in their lives.  Until Tuesday 2 July 2024, please email Mrs Mullen (admissions@oxted.thpt.org.uk), who will answer your questions or direct them to the right member of staff to support you.

Once your child is in Year 7, any questions or concerns should be referred in the first instance to their Form Tutor or Year Team. Contact details will be provided at the Information Evening on Tuesday 2 July 2024.
