A school only runs well if good leadership comes from the top.
You are doing a great job in this difficult time.

The Maths lessons are well-balanced with teacher interaction, white board learning and Hegarty tasks and the need to complete Hegarty or do an additional one outside of lesson is of no harm.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the VI Team for all your hard work during lockdown.   As you know my mum has been trying to encourage me to work independently in some lessons during home learning, it has been a struggle but I know it’s good for me to try to be as independent as much as I can.  We really appreciate the work you all adapt and send over for us, I wouldn’t be able to do the work with you.   A big thanks from Savannah and Faye

My daughter has come away absolutely buzzing from Chemistry lessons with Mr Edwards.  It's not a favourite subject at all, but he's doing something that the kids are just loving, and it makes her day when she has a lesson with him.

Tutor time is hugely important to routine and camaraderie. My son looks forward to them. The teachers have been amazing and keep it interesting and fun most of the time.

The live lessons in Year 8 and Year 11 that Oxted deliver is more than other local schools have received and have been fantastic. Thanks so much to all the teachers for their hard work and commitment.

Thank you to all of you, you are amazing! You gave the encouragement to our son which is what he needs, this will enable him to go on and achieve what he needs to.

Mr Bond, I wanted to thank you especially for your videos last week; one for parents and the other for students.  It was very much appreciated and a lovely way of hearing what you had to say other than via a letter. You have a habit of bringing a tear to my eye with those video communications! You really "get it" with what you say; I'm sure because you are supporting your own children whilst working too, you have first-hand experience. So, thank you!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of Oxted School staff for all your hard work and commitment to all your students.

Thank you so much to all the staff who teach our children for their fantastic online lessons.  We really appreciate the time and thought that goes into producing engaging lessons to keep our children's learning on track, and know it takes a lot of work to constantly adapt planning and resources for online teaching.  I'm sure it's also hard work for staff to spend all day in front of a screen talking to a selection of coloured circles instead of a roomful of children, yet your staff continue to be positive and encouraging every day.

I think the way you have taken these very unusual times and adapted like you have is fantastic.  Demi has made some nice friends as she had the opportunity to start in December, and Hannah has settled in well with the online learning.  Having moved from Zimbabwe to South Africa and then to the UK in the last 4 years, it has been quite a challenge for these girls.

"Thank you for giving our daughter the chance to spend a week at the University of Surrey. It seems as though she has made the most of every opportunity they have given her to think about herself as a learner and to reflect on what she wants to study, when the time comes,
as well as what she need to do in the meantime, to ensure she gets there".

"Thank you so much for taking the Classics classes on such an interesting,
well thought out and well organised trip to Rome and Naples/Sorrento.

My daughter has come home buzzing, full of excitement, saying that it is the best trip she has been on. Thank you too for the degree of freedom you gave them, this contributed to the students being able to explore and interact with local people in a natural way".

"Thank you for organising the Historical Fiction Club!
I really enjoyed doing it and I would like to take place again next year!!"

Year 7 Student

"I just wanted to thank you all for your time at the Year 7 Progress Review evening, I am absolutely thrilled with the progress my daughter is making, she is turning into a super and intelligent young lady. I know she is embracing school life and I can see how proud of herself she is; she told me that she loves all her teachers; so thank you all so much. I know how hard you all work and I really appreciate all the support and kindness you are giving my daughter to help her be successful with her studies".

"I would like to say how enjoyable the Options evening was for us. Well done! The teachers were so up for it and having 1:1 discussions with them really helped our son decide what to finally do.
Thank you again".

"Having been to Year 9 Progress Review evening we found the comments from the teachers very helpful. We also had some excellent and detailed emails from teachers who were unable to offer an appointment. We found the teachers enthusiastic and supportive and are sure that they will be able to answer our questions and help us guide our sons in making their option choices."

"I was lucky enough to see two performances of the School production and loved every second of both of them. There were too many stand out moments by individuals to mention, but who could not mention Megan Saunders!! What a wonderful sight to see so many students from across all year groups performing together. I am so proud to be associated with Oxted School, the School production was absolute proof that when it is run and executed well, non-selective,
totally inclusive state education is the best!"

"My husband and I would like to thank Mrs Seymour and her excellent team for the amazing achievement that was the School production. Our daughter had the time of her life and loved every minute of it. She has made lots of new friends and the process has helped hugely with her confidence. Your commitment and dedication, and that of all the teachers, is very much appreciated."

"I just wanted to congratulate everyone involved in the directing and technical side of the School production, particularly Mrs Seymour, Mr Holloway, Mr McEwan
and Tom Violet for an amazing production."

"Just a quick note to say how wonderful the production was. Such a lot of team effort with fantastic results. What a talented group of performers (students and staff). My daughter loved every minute of being involved particularly having the opportunity to 'under study' a couple of times. That was great for her confidence and self-esteem."

"I would like to thank Mr Eardley for all the additional literacy support that he has given to my daughter. It has really made a tremendous difference to my daughter's progress
and I have appreciated all your efforts."

"My daughter is really loving Oxted School, I can't remember enjoying school quite so much myself!. I think the gymnastics, cheerleading and netball clubs might have something to do with it,
along with the languages!"

"We would like to thank Mr Cliff, Mr Eardley and Miss O'Keeffe so very much for the trip they organised to London galleries. Both my children came back absolutely full of their wonderful day and we are most grateful to you for giving up your precious free time to give them this experience".

"I just wanted to how informative myself and my son found the Sixth Form Open Evening. We spent the evening touring the subjects we wanted to find out more about, and we were met by extremely enthusiastic and motivated staff and students. Congratulations to you and your staff for being so enthusiastic and devoted. I hope our son makes good choices but I know you have helped him in that".

I was particularly impressed when the opportunity arose how they demonstrated an inclusive and supportive attitude for each other and their politeness and consideration shown to others. The professionalism and slick organisation of the staff team was clearly evident ".

"We are very impressed with Oxted's home-school communication system,
which is in place to help us track our daughter's learning".

and hasn't stopped talking about it since his return!"

Carnegie Reading Group

"I would like to thank the Library for it's enthusiasm and encouragement in my son's reading. He often comes home and talks about the Library and the chats he has. You are clearly running an exciting Library space and inspiring the students. We really do appreciate how this enriches our son's learning generally".

Phoenix Group

"My wife and I would like to take the opportunity to express our gratitude for all of the fantastic work carried out by your Phoenix Group with our son. Since he has been at Oxted School we have seen him grow in confidence and develop his communication skills to a level where he is more comfortable holding conversations. We feel he is also making a level of academic progress that he may have achieved in the mainstream. We view it as a great privilege that our son attends a school where the inclusion program is so strong".

"Thank you to the Librarians for your enthusiasm and encouragement with our son's reading, He often comes home and talks about the Library and the chats he has with you.

"I would like to thank all the staff and student who helped to make the Science Fair such a wonderful learning experience for our children. Everyone involved was enthusiastic and patient with the children, which made the Science accessible and interesting to the whole class.
My Year 5 class had a fantastic time and came back absolutely buzzing about the different experiments".

(Alison Carter, Churchill School)

"I went to the Spring Music Concert and was literally blown away by the talent. All the soloist were amazing but especially the girl who played the flute - I didn't know the flute could sound like that. The BTEC boys certainly did The Average White Band justice, and The Entertainer....well! It's not just the teachers at the front and the students playing -
the teachers are taking part too and lots of students are in more than one band/choir".

"I always fell an overwhelming sense of pride when I hear my son sing (or play one of his pieces), but at the Spring Concert I felt hugely proud to just be in the room with so much talent. This has been the best of all the recent concerts and had more variety than ever before. I was genuinely honoured to be in the presence of some of the young talent that is coming through Oxted School -
those who are prepared to show off their skills and talents to a room full of strangers.

Thank you so very much for what was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and for being the stimulation behind the extraordinary talent that was on show. Great work!"

"I would like to thank the VI department who organised the trip to Memphis. My son was one of the students lucky enough to go on this visit and he, as always, got a lot out of the visit, not just the obvious benefits of seeing the show, but also mixing with students across other year groups. This is yet another example of the excellent support which the VI Unit has given my son in his time at Oxted School, which has been a contributory factor to the progress he has made academically and in increased confidence".

“Thank you very much for an informative school tour this morning and the time you spent with us afterwards. Whatever our decision, we are very excited about the changes happening at Oxted.”

They set the standard with their positive attitude and approach to the training and competition. Their appearance was excellent, they always smiled, their language was impeccable and their energy and enthusiasm and ‘can do’ attitude were noticeable throughout both days. In addition, their interactions with parents, adults and children alike were outstanding.”

“I would like to thank and congratulate Mr Bennett, Head of Sixth Form, and his team in helping my son achieve the grades he needed for University. Having decided to take him out of private education, I was a little concerned how he would perform at Oxted School – I should have not worried – the team work tirelessly and with real dedication so that the Sixth Form students achieve the best they can.”

“We went to see the show ‘Oh What a Lovely War’ and we thought it was brilliant! There is certainly no lack of talent at Oxted – we loved that lots of different age groups were involved and that they were all having a great time – growing confidence in our children is what it’s all about!”

“My son has just completed a session Food Technology lessons and I just wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to Mrs Jackson. He loved the lessons and has learnt so much in a relatively short period of time. He is now enthusiastic and passionate about cooking, something I am extremely grateful for you giving him. Thank you for your dedication in teaching my son such an important life skill
and in the process giving him a new hobby.”

“I am writing to give feedback from myself and my son on the Raising Achievement evening. Not only was it well organised, but both of us came away, especially my son, feeling confident, focused and a feeling he was being treated like an adult.

Altogether we came away with a positive attitude and a positive experience.”
